I was fortunate again to be featured with my Mercedes pens Art Car on a piece by Smithsonian TV that was called America Wild & Wacky about some of the country’s most unique festivals. They covered Art Car Fest 06, Roadkill Cook Off in Marlington, WV, Lawn Mover Mud Racing and a Pumpkin Blast Off. Some of the other amazing art cars also featured in this video were: The Vain Van, Camera Van, Phantom, Daisy Singer, Carthedral, Von Tiki and the Colt Mobile.
Mercedes Pen Car Repair Made Easy
If you own a Older Mercedes Benz you soon find out that parts and labor are not exactly cheap. My 1981 300SD has now 260,000 miles and so far I have had to do most of my own repairs. I did it by asking lots of questions, going to forums and photocopying pages from the library on how repair my car. I recently run into someone on my lunch break who was working on his car and told me about a great web site called Mercedes Source that not only sells parts but has a forum for owners and also sells specific instructional manuals. So while I was under the car changing my oil a couple of weeks ago I found that one of my V-belts was damaged and needed replacing. So yesterday I ordered a set of belts and a manual, should be on Monday, can’t wait.
This photo was taken at Art Car Fest 08 by David Dasinger on flickr. I love this photo of the Mercedes Pens Fin because you can really get a good look at it up against the background. Nice job David!!!
Wool Jacket Covered in Pens at Harrod Blank’s Automorphosis
Never mind the pained look on my face I really was having a good time wearing this wool jacket covered in a couple hundred pens at Harrod Blank’s movie premier called “Automophosis“. The movie looks into the minds and hearts of a delightful collection of eccentrics, visionaries, and just plain folks who have transformed their autos into artworks. I am not sure now that the hat coordinated with the jacket or the wanna be Mr. T Pen necklace made any sense at all, but the movie was good and we got some free pizza from some guy running for local office.

Mercedes Pens Pushing 10,000 Pens – Art Car Fest 08 in Berkeley
Well I made it through the Berkeley parade last Sunday for the last day of Art Car Fest 08. I was totally stressed out trying to get as many darn pens glued to my Mercedes Pens before the event but at some point I had enough. I finished my hub caps with tie wraps so the Mr. Sketch Scented Markers wouldn’t fly off the wheels like they did the first time. I installed the new orange seat covers and finished up the rear fins. There is still a lot of work to especially the sections with the really old pens. To all of you I met that day thanks for coming by, and thank you in advance for those of you who promised to send me all your old pens in the mail:)
Getting Ready For Art Car Fest 08
I changed my oil and filter on my engine and transmission!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow that was scary and exciting all at the same time. Never did my transmission before, started Saturday and had to get a replacement seal because they gave me the wrong one. Last Saturday I also installed my purple back seat covers and I also got my orange shag fuzzy seat covers in today, and are in the dryer to get the excess lint off. No all I need is to finish the hubcaps and the odd missing pen here and there and I am done. I also found a damaged fan belt which means I need to take car of that as soon as I can. The Nice thing about my 1981 Mercedes 300SD is that once you get over the initial panic its relatively easy to fix things once I talk to enough people and get all the info I need on the forums. A nice web site I found is Mercedesource which has parts and specific booklets on how to fix things. Very nice I think my next project will be the fan belts.
