20 Days Until Art Car Fest 08

I am totally behind on blogging but ahead in getting my car ready for this years Art Car Fest 08. I am in the process of remodeling, which only means taking old pens off the car and replacing them with fresh ones. I just finished the back fin of the car which sorta looks like a blob of pens all piled up, but trust its a fin. I want to get the car ready before I release any more photos and when I am done I will take the car out for some glamor shots of the Mercedes Pens. I will then flood Al Gores world wide web called the “Internet” with photos of my newly remodeled art car covered in about 10,000 pens. I am also going to buy some fuzzy orange seat covers for the front and make my own for the back seat, spruce up the fake grass and put some down in the back as well.

My daughters first ride in the Mercedes Pens Art Car, notice she is holding a “pen”. I wonder were she got that?

100% Clear Silicone from Sebastopol Hardware Center

I must say I love 100% Clear Silicone for gluing pens to my car, and I especially love it when its donated by the awesome folks over at Sebastopol Hardware Center. As gas prices go up so does the price of other petroleum products such as Silicone but the price of their Ace brand is holding nicely at around $4.99 a tube. The stuff is really good for holding pens on the Mercedes pens for around two years and then its time to put fresh ones. The constant beating of UV, heat and rain on the car really does a number on the pens but with a fresh batch of silicone it will allow me to glue more pens at City Kids Festival, Saturday August 23, 2008 – Julliard Park. Art Car Fest is also just around the corner during the last weekend in September 25-28, 2008 so I only have two more moths to figure out how and where to attach four thousand more pens.

The Pen Guy on KSRO 1350 today!!!

Pearl gluying a pen on the Mercedes Pens at Art Car Fest 06 in Berkeley, CA

Today an interview I did with Curtiss Kim from KSRO 1350 AM airs, in fact I am up at the crack of dawn to write a little, put up some new photos and listen for the show. The show airs this morning from 5:30 to 9am, noon and again form 3-6pm. To Curtiss and the KSRO team, I thank you for the opportunity to talk about Mercedes Pens and my journey as the Pen Guy. To all of you in Santa Rosa and Sebastopol and the rest of Sonoma County, I love making you smile as we pass by each other, it is my goal in life to make as many of you laught out loud as I can, by driving this wacky, pen covered car. I would also love to come by your schools, business, organizations, or events to share more of my life journey in the hopes that I would encourage you to go out and follow your dreams and desires for your life. All the best, and dont forget to wave, honk, call or email me with your thoughts.

Drivin’ me wild

This is the most recent photo of the Mercedes Pens with additional pens glued to the sun roof. It was shot at the marina in Berkeley during Art Car Fest 2007 on the last day after How Berkeley can you be parade. Harrod Blank author of the Art cars book asked me if he could take pictures of the car.

Also there was a recent article by Len Vinas and Jessica Barcenilla posted in the Golden Gate Xpress called Drivin’ me wild. It features the Mercedes Pens, Darwin, Eartha Karr and the Sashimi Tabernacle Choir Artcars at the recent Artcar fest 2007. Check the multimedia button on the upper right hand corner.
