Maker Faire Bay Area 2009 Video Montage

Here is the best video montage I found of Maker Faire 2009 so far, that gives a good flavor of what the event was all about. The guy playing the snow shovel guitar is Isaac Frankle the ‘Shovel Man’ a Guitarist, Singer, Lyricist, Percussionist, Harmonica Player Instrument Inventor Artist/Scientist & Sound Sculptor. In the video you can also see the Hennepin Crawler, Whirlygig Emoto, Neverwas Haul a three story Victorian house on wheels, and the famous Radio Flyer Art Car. There is also the giant metal wings and of course the Mercedes Pens makes a brief appearance.

PenAgain™ Inventor Colin Roche Shows up at Maker Faire

Colin Roche and The Pen Guy with the ErgoSleek
PenAgain™ Inventor Colin Roche presents The Pen Guy with an ErgoSleek PenAgain
Maker Faire 2009 was fantastic, and there are lots of things I will be sharing in the coming days, but first I wanted to talk about Colin Roche, the inventor of an amazing pen called PenAgain™. In my four years as the Pen Guy I have never met an inventor of a pen- so this was a first for me. Colin invented a pen that has a comfortable “No Grip” design that reduces stress on the hands and fingers. The full PenAgain story can be read here. Colin came up to me and said he also is a “pen guy” and then after telling me his story, I knew he was the real deal. He also presented me with the ErgoSleek PenAgain one the coolest looking pens ever- it looks like a retro space rocket in its box with two refills and a snazzy pen stand. One of these days I am going to have to make a trip down to the PenAgain store. Thank you Colin, it was a pleasure to meet you and your lovely family. Here is is also the documentary video.

Pen Guy makes it on the Smithsothian Blog

Wow how cool is that, I made it on the Smithosian Channel with a great article called Recycle Your Pens by Andrea Michnik. Great Job!!I have been taking it easy lately but have continued to collect pens often wondering what the next step will be. Just today I got charged up again and determined in my mind that I needed to get a hold of more pens. The funny thing is that this article came out for the world to see and know that I am man on the hunt for the worlds supply of old pens. Funny how things work out for good in the grand scheme of things.

I don’t know why I got in my head to do this and put it out there, but sometimes you have to follow that inspiring dream and not worry about the how. The journey is much more important than the end result and so far this journey has been amazing. I have met so many people who I would never had met if not been for the Mercedes Pens Art Car.

The only real plan for now is to just keep going, collecting and going after my dream. I do need all the help I can get and that is why I need you out there to collect and send in those pens. At some point I will need building space to house all these pens, to sort and begin the process of transforming these old pens into art and other useful stuff. I will need supplies, expertise, funds and a vast network of people who have caught the vision and want to be a part of something really big and at the very least, a pretty darn interesting experiment.

Pen Guy on Smithsonian TV- ArtCar Fest 2006

I was fortunate again to be featured with my Mercedes pens Art Car on a piece by Smithsonian TV that was called America Wild & Wacky about some of the country’s most unique festivals. They covered Art Car Fest 06, Roadkill Cook Off in Marlington, WV, Lawn Mover Mud Racing and a Pumpkin Blast Off. Some of the other amazing art cars also featured in this video were: The Vain Van, Camera Van, Phantom, Daisy Singer, Carthedral, Von Tiki and the Colt Mobile.
