14 Great Reasons The Mercedes Pens Visits Schools

14 Great Reasons The Mercedes Pens Visits Schools

A couple of weeks ago I visited Northwest Prep in Santa Rosa Ca with my Mercedes Pens Art Car. I was invited by Art Teacher Barb G., whom I met at the Lucky’s parking lot while I was picking up pens from the VNA thrift in Sebastopol. She invited me to bring the Mercedes and show her art class an art car up close and personal. I got a chance to visit and share a little about the what, the why and the how.

I love to show people how much you can do with simple and free materials such as dead pens of every kind. The pen car has been a lesson to me in the power of focusing on a vision, and taking the daily persistent steps towards seeing that vision come to life. 10,000 don’t just glue them selves on a car, it took daily concentrated effort to find the pens, plan where to put the pens and then actually spending the time to do the work. All this was possible because I first had a vision in my mind of what I wanted the pen car to look like and the passion to see the project come to life so others could enjoy it.

I keep working on the car because as long as there are people who need a good laugh or something to inspire them, I have good reason to continue dreaming of pens, working on the car and making bigger and better pen art.

The other day I got manila folder from Northwest Prep filled with 14 thank you notes with pens attached. Getting those notes in the mail made my day so I wanted to highlight them for you and give thanks to the students there for giving another 14 reasons to continue collecting pens and working on the Mercedes Pens Art Car.

Inspired mom collects olds pens for the pen guy

I found this great picture on a blog called The Clothesline by a wonderful mom called Cathy who found The Pen Guy blog and decided to collect her old pens and send them over when the box is full. The comments are also very encouraging and came on a day when I was feeling down while contemplating the economy and my finances. There are moments in life when in the face of great opposition and difficulty you have to move forward by faith on the vision and destiny you were meant to walk in. The world says one thing but your heart and gut says another. Often times people give up the fight right before the breakthrough comes and never go on to walk in their destiny and see their dreams come true. I heard once that the worlds greatest inventions and ideas are found inside graves, because they were buried there with the people who either gave up too soon, or were too afraid to step out in faith to believe that they had an idea worth pursuing. We are not alone in life and need others to encourage us in the journey but we also need to encourage others in the journey as well. Cathy has done that for me today and I thank her from the bottom of my heart. Giving up on your dreams is not only a trategy for you but for the rest of us who would have benefited in some way from that dream. Think of all the ideas and inventions that make a difference in your life today, now think of life without those same things. So all I can say is dream big and fight a good fight to see those dreams come true. Imagine life without Disney for instance!!!

What Makes You Come Alive? – Go Do That

Here is a video to ask the question: What the world Needs.

Don’t ask yourself what the world needs
ask yourself what makes you, come alive
      and go do that
      because what the world needs…
is people who have come alive.

      What makes you come alive???
      Then go do that.

Recycle Pens, glue them on a Mercedes

Crayola MarkersMercedes pens Covered in Crayola Markers cover the Mercedes Pens roof, they are nice an thick and don’t bend off the roof in the summer heat.

When I first came up with the idea to glue pens on my Mercedes Pens, actually the idea just came to me or else I would have never thought of this in a million years, I had no idea my car would become such a hit around town and even around the world. I knew it was a great idea because every one uses pens and eventually they get stolen, lost or thrown away. So when I first started collecting them I had no problem asking, and they had no problem donated them for crazy art car project. Some even gave me brand new samples, what can I say I am equal opportunity and the pens would “eventually” run out of ink. Over the past two and half years I have gotten better at finding more an more pens and now I have a couple of thrift stores that call me about every two weeks for a pen pick up. I also visit schools in Sonoma County and give talks about what I do and why I do it. In return I have gotten bags of old pens, mainly crayola markers. This year I plan to get out more and talk more about recycling, art, and inspiring others to follow their dreams and visions for their life. My big dream in life is to become a world-renowned motivational speaker comedian. I dont know how, but I know it happens one pen at time.
