I am happy to announce that I was invited to do comedy at the Purple Bell Bottom Bash on June 2, 2007. A benefit to raise money for Relay for Life 07-Sonoma. The Mercedes Pens will be parked out in front and then at some point I will be given the stage as the warm-up act for the Bacchus Rock Band that will be performing 60’s and 70’s music. So get those bellbottoms out and I will see you there.
Maker Fair 07 was Fantastic!!!
The Maker Fair at San Mateo Fairgrounds was a fantastic event. I was there for two days with the Mercedes Pens and the newest addition to my art car, the Blue Man Group Inspired PVC instrument on the roof. Visitors to the fair and especially kids added 400 more pens to my car. The outside is really close to completion, that means I need to find or make more space for more pens. The inside is next and the PVC Instrument on top will have more pens as well. Thank you to all who came by to see and interact with my car. Especially those of you who added your pens to it:) The PVC instrument was a hit and many of you got play with it.
Mercedes Pens and Friends at the Sebastopol Apple Blossom Festival 2007
Here is a shot from the sun roof of the Mercedes Pens and the two other Art Cars in the parade.
This year I entered the Sebastopol Apple Blossom Festival 2007 with two other art cars forming the Sonoma County Art Cars. The three of us and got up at the crack of dawn and fired up our respective Art Cars and drove down to Sebastopol. We were there by 8:00-am and parading by about 10:30-am. It was hot and sticky and for those of us without AC, mainly me it was supper hot. We were synchronized art cars zigzagging all the way down main and throwing candy out the window.
If you missed this great event fear not, there is always the Forestville Parade June 2 and “How Berkeley Can You Be” in September for the more adventurous.
Mercedes Pens Plans for the Future
Due to the fact that the Mercedes Pens is so much darn fun to drive and work on I decided to make some more additions for 2007
1) Add an additional 5,000 pens by June (Start of parade season) to bring me to a total of 10,000 pens at least by the next Art Car Fest in September of 2007
2) Paint the inside of the car and add some of those 5,000 pens
3) Create “City On A Hill” on the roof of the car. That’s a city scape made from giant pens created from PVC pipe.
Also
I want to continue to be available for other public events and speaking engagements.
My goal this year is to speak/appear at 40 events, lofty I know but its a way to give back to the community that has been so supportive of this great project.
My dream is to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams and visions for their life. The simple act of gluing pens on my Mercedes was the key to unlocking my dream. Obeying that inner voice and having the faith to believe that it was a worthy goal to pursue, got me to were I am today. I’ve always wanted to inspire make people laugh and this car opened the door to my dream.
The door first opened when I was asked to speak at a school after seeing my car parked next door where I worked. This March I get go back to the same school and share more about this awesome journey I have been privileged to embark upon.
I was also asked to MC a benefit Conscert to raise money for a women’s shelter here in town how cool is that?
70 More Pens Glued on the Mercedes Pens at Sebastopol Arts and Science Day
Sebastopol Arts and Science day was awesome!!!
I parked at the entrance of the event and had about 70 kids glue pens on the bottom panel of the passenger door of the Pen Car. I was the warm up act for all the fun stuff that was going on at the event. Thank you to all my friends for helping me work on the Pen Car. I promise to drive your pen around town for every one to see and enjoy.
I also had my picture taken by High Speed Camera set to take a picture of me bursting a balloon with a pencil, the instant the balloon pops. The effects of this type of high speed photography are stunning.
Finally I got to meet Dan Woods Associate Publisher of Make: a fantastic magazine published by O’Reilly Media Inc.
An intriguing magazine about making stuff from other stuff, and the stories about how that stuff was made, the people who make that stuff and information on how you too can make some of the same stuff they made from stuff you can find at your place where you store some of the same stuff that made that other stuff. Go it? If not just click on the link.
