Why I started the Mercedes Pens Art Car

I was inspired to do an art car after reading a book about art cars in 2004. June of 2006 the idea to use pens to cover my car came one morning in flash. With my first twenty pens a tube of 100% silicon glue and a flash light I begun my fun journey into the art car world.

The car is an 1981 Mercedes Benz 300SD Diesel which was named by my friend “Mercedes Pens”. I also came up with the name “The Pen Guy” because he wanted to create a recognizable identity for those who saw him driving around.
He wanted to counteract the negative influences in our society by creating a car that was inspirational, motivational and made people laugh. His vision is to inspire an motivate others to pursue their life long dreams and visions. He does this by driving around, talking with people and speaking at community events.

The Mercedes Pens and The Pen Guy is an event that everyone can take a part in. When you donate your new and used pens you participate in creating a fun, wonderful and inspiring car that people from many walks of life can enter into and enjoy.

So far The Pen Guy has been asked to speak at local schools, community events and private parties.

Giving thanks to our Veterans

This Sunday November 11, 2007 I get to ride in the Fairfield Veterans Day Parade 2007 with the Mercedes Pens. The event starts at 10 am and the parade around noon. This event is put on by the City of Fairfield and the National Association of Uniformed Services. As an immigrant to this country I am so thankfull to the men and women of the U.S armed services for their sacrifice for the freedoms that my family and I enjoy. It might sound dumb but that freedom allows me drive a car covered in pens. If you are thankfull for all that you have, next time you see a soldier or a veteran, tell them.

ArtCar Fest 07 Flyer – Just in

ArtCar Fest 07 flyer is done, and this year I was given the honor of design it. As you can see I went for the tabloid look with outragous headlines. I’ve wanted to do that for many years, now I can cross that off my design to do list. Since I was doing the flyer I asked Philo Northrup, ArtCar Fest Co-Founder, if it was OK to include The Mercedes Pens Art car in it. Thank you for allowing me to plug my car:) 16 days to go.

Eight Weeks Till ArtCar Fest 07

I have eight weeks to get my car ready for the Bay areas biggest Art Car gathering just west of Sacramento. Basically completely cover my car in pens inside and out. I almost have the outside done. Now I have to finish painting the inside and then cover it with pens. I will change the color of the carpet, get my self some cool fuzzy seat covers, and eventually find some neato spinny rims, that will have pens glued on them. Stay tuned as I update my blog with the latest photos of my progress.
